ISO 9001:2008 and NCSI move towards certification refinement

The International Standards Organisation (ISO) and International Accreditation Forum (IAF) today released further information about the soon to be published version of the ISO 9001; quality management systems standard.

Whilst it has been noted that no major changes have been made to the ISO 9001 standard, all Certification bodies, including as NCS International, are required to audit against the new ISO 9001:2008 standard from its publication date in late 2009.

All organisations that are currently certified to ISO 9001:2000 will be required to transition to the 2008 version of the standard by late 2010 as ISO9001:2000will no longer be a valid standard beyond that date. Organisations that have any audits  due may choose to transition to the new version before the 2010 deadline.

ISO 9001:2008 will be the fourth edition of the ISO 9001 standard series which was originally issued in 1987. Unlike the 2000 revision of the standard, ISO 9001:2008 does not make any major changes to the standard, rather it refines and clarifies the ISO 9001:2000 standard and aligns it with the environmental management systems ISO 14001:2004 standard.
