ISO 9001:2009 is Just Around the Corner
They say the older you get the faster time flies. The same can not be said when it comes to management systems... or can it?. The ISO 9001:2000 version was a significant departure from the 1994 version, and did require a new business-focused approach. This was often difficult and time-consuming to implement for quality managers and certification bodies.
This time around ISO 9001:2009 will largely remain true to its predecessor (2000) and include a collection of clarifications that will effectively mean ‘business as usual’. ISO 9001:2009 changes are designed to improve clarity, ease of application, and improved compatibility with ISO 14001.
Over 100 businesses have participated in a pilot study of ISO 9001:2009 and their feedback is currently being interpreted and applied. According to ISO/TC 176/SC 2, the committee responsible for the ISO 9000 Series of Standards, “after lengthy deliberations it was agreed that the work on the amendment to ISO 9001:2000 had reached the point of maturity where it should advance to the Draft International Standard stage, and should not be circulated as a second Committee Draft (CD).”
In terms of an official release date, TC 176 announced on its official website that “the next edition of ISO 9001 is expected to achieve publication around October 2008.”
Over the next few issues of the NCSI Update we will work through the expected amendments. Stay tuned. For more information, e-mail info@ncsi.com.au , or call us on 1300 856 554 |
