Course Overview Safety 4801

This course provides participants with an understanding of occupational health and safety management systems (SMS) based on AS/NZS 4801:2001 and OHSAS 18001:2007, including the relationship between the SMS and OH&S legislation.

Competency Outcomes & Associated Courses

This is a non-assessed and non-accredited course. Students attending the course will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance

Attendance & Pre-requisite Guidelines

There are no pre-requisites for this course although an interest in and working access to a Safety Management System is recommended. This course is intended for people who are responsible for developing and implementing occupational health and safety management systems based on AS/NZS 4801:2001 and OHSAS 18001:2007.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this course participants will have an understanding of:

  • The requirements of AS/NZS 4801:2001 and OHSAS 18001:2007
  • Iidentification and assessment of workplace hazards
  • OH&S/WHS legislation and how it relates to the SMS
  • The documentation requirements of AS/NZS 4801:2001 and OHSAS 18001:2007

This course covers the following topics:

  • Benefits of OH&S management systems
  • The requirements of AS/NZS 4801:2001 and OHSAS 18001:2007- what they are and what they mean
  • The documentation requirements of AS/NZS 4801:2001 and OHSAS 18001:2007
  • Application of OH&S legislation
  • Review and improvement of the Safety Management System

Please Note: This is a theory-based course centred on the clauses and requirements of ISO 4801 and OHSAS 18001 Students wishing to obtain a more rounded view of the application, implementation and development of an WHS Management System are advised to attend the two (2) day Safety Management Systems course.

Some copies of the AS/NZS ISO 4801 and 18001 Standards will be available for reference during the course however we recommend bringing your own copy so you can make your own notes/highlight during the course (alternatively to support delegate learning and post-course reference, hard copies may be purchased during registration for delivery to your course).
