Freshcare is an industry owned non-for-profit on-farm assurance program used to provide benefits to both suppliers and clients. Freshcare is currently the largest Australian assurance program for fresh produce. BSI provides auditing to a range of Freshcare Program (Standards) such as:

1. Food Safety & Quality (FSQ4.2)(JAS-ANZ accredited)

Practices that must be implemented and maintained to assure continuous food safety and quality requirements are being met on-farm by growers and grower packers. This is an approved base scheme under HARPS.

Mandatory changes for participating businesses:

  • The Freshcare Food Safety & Quality Standard – Edition 4.2 (FSQ 4.2) was released to industry on 9 November 2020, to meet the latest market requirements, international standards and to gain recognition against Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Version 2020.1 benchmark requirements

2. Supply Chain Standard (SCS2) (JAS-ANZ accredited)

The Supply Chain Standard has been developed to provide a food safety and quality management program for businesses involved in fresh produce supply chain operations including:

  • Agents
  • Brokers
  • Fumigators
  • Marketing groups
  • Packers
  • Ripeners
  • Storage and distribution centres
  • Transporters
  • Wholesalers

Edition 2 was released in 2021 to meet the latest market requirements, international standards and to gain recognition against Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Version 2020.1 benchmark requirements. To ensure continued access to markets around the world for Australian produce.

3. Environmental (ENV3) (non-accredited)

Offers growers a comprehensive, easy to follow and outcomes based environmental assurance program, specifically designed to aid in achieving and demonstrating real environmental outcomes on-farm.

Certification to the Freshcare Food Safety Program (Standard), involves an independent (3rd party) verification by an approved certification body such as BSI. This verification process recognizes that the Program (Standard) is compliant to the Freshcare requirements.

4.Freshcare Australian Wine Industry Standard of Sustainable Practice – Viticulture (AWISSP-VIT1) and Winery (AWISSP–WIN1.1) (non-accredited)

Sustainable Winegrowing Australia provides a mechanism for Australian wine grape growers and winemakers to be acknowledged for their practices according to recognized international standards.

Certification to the Freshcare Food Safety Program (Standard), involves an independent (3rd party) verification by an approved certification body such as BSI. This verification process recognizes that the Program (Standard) is compliant to the Freshcare requirements.
