On Thursday 28th June 2007, Mr Greg Jewson, NCS International’s Chief Executive Officer, presented the inaugural NCSI Chairman’s Award for Management System Excellence to Dr Ian Heath, Director General of IP Australia at IP Australia’s premises in Canberra.

Ms Jacqui Wilkins, Chair of NCS International personally congratulated IP Australia on behalf of the Board of NCS International on receiving the inaugural Chairman’s Award which recognises IP Australia’s achievements in implementing ISO 9001.  She envisaged that this award will become a recognised symbol of excellence in management system execution and said NCS International were honoured to have IP Australia as the inaugural recipient.

Ms Wilkins noted that IP Australia’s corporate values are clearly demonstrated externally through their leadership within the Public Sector and internally through the dedication and passion exhibited by IP Australia’s senior management team.  She mentioned in particular Mr Rob Bollard, Director of IP Australia’s Corporate Quality Office, who worked closely and effectively with NCSI auditor Dennis Power and NCS Training and Development’s Todd Redwood to achieve ISO 9001 certification for the organisation.

In accepting the Chairman’s Award 2007, Director General Dr Ian Heath thanked Mr Jewson, Ms Wilkins and NCS International for the prestigious honour which recognises IP Australia’s outstanding achievement in implementing ISO 9001 across the organisation.

“The 'Chairman’s Award' for excellence in quality management is a very welcome recognition of the efforts of all our staff,” Dr Heath said.  “I understand we are the first organisation to receive the 'Chairman’s Award', and we were chosen from a field of over 4,300 companies across the globe. This is a terrific achievement and recognises IP Australia’s strong quality infrastructure and underlines our commitment to improve our quality into the future.”

As the Australian Government agency responsible for administering patents, trade marks, designs and plant breeder’s rights for the benefit of all Australians, IP Australia also manages programs to educate and promote awareness of intellectual property (IP), provides policy advice to Government, develops legislation to support the IP system, regulates the IP profession and contributes to international negotiations to improve the global IP system.

IP Australia is proud to be associated with NCS International and their associate company NCS Training and Development.  Dr Heath commented that the professional advice and enthusiastic support IP Australia had received from the company, especially from NCS staff Todd Redwood and auditor Dennis Power, had been instrumental in their success.
