Melbourne's Fire Brigade hot on quality In a first for Australian Fire Services, Melbourne’s Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) recently was awarded the Victorian Gold Award for Quality, complementing its achievement of ISO 9001 certification from NCS International for its fire stations. This achievement means the MFB now has Quality Certification for the entire organisation, a total of 50 sites, and an emergency response system recognised as meeting the international standard. The standard forms the basis for integration with management systems such as occupational health and safety, environment, legal compliance, records management, risk, business continuity, information security and governance, and of course underpins MFB’s approach to continuous improvement. At the presentation of the first of many ISO9001 Certificates to firefighters at the Eastern Hill Fire Station MFB Commander and Quality Manager Stuart McCall said "I believed the award indicates that the MFB will continue to hold quality assurance in the highest regard. The certification process is one of continual improvement." "With the completion of ISO 9001 quality certification, every directorate and zone has been issued with quality assurance certificates", said Mr McCall. "Fire stations are in the process of being issued with individual certificates to display in the station, assuring members of the public that our systems and people are prepared for any emergency response." |
