TalentPay finalist at NSW WorkCover Safe Work Awards

In a gala evening at Acer Arena on the 29th October 2008 and in front of 600 invited guests, TalentPay achieved an industry first by winning a High Commendation in the NSW Government’s Safe Work Awards. In the category of ‘Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System’, judges noted TalentPay’s ‘leadership role in their industry’ and went on to praise their ‘systematic management of OHS’ issues and ‘their overall quality systems management’.

TalentPay is unique in the advertising and entertainment industry in that it provides a full talent and performer management system encompassing contract and payroll management, OHS compliance, and verification of both State and Commonwealth statutory legislation.

Established six years ago, TalentPay is now the only company in Australia dedicated to and specialising in managing short-term talent compliance and processing for local and offshore productions. These productions include feature films, TV commercials, photographic shoots, voice-overs and stage productions. Last year TalentPay processed over 4000 performers and had the enviable record of having no significant or reportable injuries during that time.

“This award has been particularly satisfying for us,” said Annette Morris, TalentPay’s general manager and a film industry veteran of 20 years standing.

“We saw the need in the industry for this type of operation, but it was very much a greenfields start-up. We’ve gradually overcome a level of resistance and misunderstanding though, as companies realise that compliance issues are not going away and that the responsibility for employing and managing talent is an ongoing requirement”.

“For a long while this aspect of the business was run on an ad hoc basis but now most companies realise that it is their interests and in the interest of both their clients and their employed talent to be fully compliant. The risks are just too great to ignore,” she said.

TalentPay’s next move is to take the whole talent compliance process online, adding further efficiencies she added.

Certified since 2007 in both ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems and AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, TalentPay is a great example of proactivity in the workplace.
