Introduction and who should attend
This course provides people who are commencing implementation of an environmental management system (EMS) based on ISO 14001:2004 with the knowledge and skills required to develop an EMS that will assist business meet its environmental objectives including legal and regulatory requirements, and improve environmental performance.
Delegates will be issued with copies of the AS/NZS ISO 14001 Standard for use during the course. However, delegates can purchase their own copy of this Standard and related standards during the enrolment process for delivery during the course.

Course objectives
On completion of the course participants will have an understanding of:
- the requirements of ISO 14001:2004;
- documentation requirements of ISO 14001:2004;
- how an environmental management system supports compliance with environmental legislation and reduces exposure to prosecution;
- how to develop an environmental management system that identifies and manages environmental issues;
- how an environmental management system can be used to improve environmental performance.
Course outline
This course covers:
- benefits of ISO 14001:2004 environmental management systems;
- the requirements of ISO 14001:2004;
- environmental management principles;
- the relationship between the EMS and environmental legislation;
- development of effective EMS documentation;
- identifying environmental aspects and impacts;
- assessing risk/significance of environmental aspects;
- developing environmental policies, objectives and targets;
- implementing effective internal audit and system review processes.
